Services
For nearly 40 years, trash and recycling services have been our core business. Today, we have an expanded portfolio of businesses that include organics recycling, biosolids management, waste transportation and sustainability consulting. Our diverse activities are tied together by our ability to manage large scale, complex projects while delivering exceptional results for our customers.
Solid Waste & Recycling have been the core of Urban's business for almost forty years. We provide a full-range of waste and recycling services using our fleet of frond-load, rear-load and roll off trucks. We provide our customers with a choice of trash and recycling containers that vary in size from small 55 gallon toters to 40 cubic yard roll-off boxes and compactors. With our own container fabrication shop, we are able to meet special requests for equipment as well as maintain the containers that we provide during the term of a contract.
Urban Service understands that the way in which waste and recycling services are delivered can enhance our customer's sustainability agenda and can assist those customers who are seeking LEED certification for their facilities. We work with each of our customers to determine the disposal arrangements that best serve our customer's needs and waste management objectives.
Urban Service has been a pioneer in the provision of organics recycling services in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Since 2008, Urban Service has been educating customers and potential customers about the benefits of food composting while providing organic collection services. The organics that Urban Service collects and hauls are used to produce high quality compost.
Urban Service has provided biosolids management and utilization services to local waste water treatment plants for more than a decade. In the past five years, Urban Service has been responsible for managing the loading, hauling and disposition of more than one million tons of organic waste materials. Our diverse program has used biosolids for land application on farm land in Maryland and Virginia, for composting, and for mine land reclamation projects.
Urban Service provides timely waste transportation services to a wide variety of customers. Using our fleet of truck tractors, walking floor and tipping trailers, and specialty tank trailers and supplemented by additional equipment as needed, Urban Service transports waste materials for a range of specialty operations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Over the years, Urban Service has hauled solid waste from trash transfer stations to landfill; grit, scum and screenings, hazardous chemicals and biosolids from local waste water treatment plants; and soil, both clean and contaminated, from the foundation of the Washington Nationals Baseball Stadium and other construction sites.
The trash business has substantially changed since Urban Service began its business almost 40 years ago. With the growing interest in developing operations that focus on sustainability and with an increased focus on the need to reuse, recycle and reduce all items in the waste stream, the area of waste management has become more challenging. Urban Service works with its customers as they seek to redesign or reposition their waste programs to develop or expand a sustainability or Zero Landfill agenda.
